Horse Feathers

After fronting several rock bands in his native Idaho, singer/songwriter Justin Ringle moved to Portland, OR in 2004 and began focusing on acoustic music, playing open mics regularly under the moniker Horse Feathers. In 2005, multi-instrumentalist Peter Broderick heard a couple of Justin’s demos and offered to help flesh them out. In February 2006 the duo went into Skyler Norwood’s Miracle Lake studios and recorded their debut album, ‘Words are Dead,’ which was released that September on Portland label, Lucky Madison. Later that year, Peter’s sister Heather Broderick joined the group on cello and by 2007, Horse Feathers began featuring a rotating cast of instrumentalists backing Justin’s guitar and vocals.

Justin and the Brodericks returned to Miracle Lake studios in the fall and winter of 2007 and recorded ‘House With No Home,’ which was released on Kill Rock Stars in the spring of 2008. Around that time, Peter left the country to pursue music in Europe, and Nathan Crockett was enlisted to cover violin duties. Several months later, Heather also left the group to pursue other musical projects and cellist Catherine Odell came on board. The group has been touring extensively for the release of their new album entitled ‘Thisled Spring’ on Kill Rock Stars, April 20th, 2010.

Meet Katerpillar, the new sound of funk-breaks/groove-rock music. Their jams fuse rock, Latin percussion, hip-hop and funk. Established in 2003, Katerpillar boasts a host of radio-ready tracks compiled from their debut album, “Metamorphosis,” and e.p.s “Katerpillar,” and “From the B-Boy Vault.”

Singer-songwriter Rod Soriano’s uniquely edgy melodies and lyrics have attracted a family of musicians that make up Katerpillar’s groove rock style.

Bassist Steve Henao piques listeners’ interest with his driving bass grooves. Steve brings heart and soul to Katerpillar’s musical foundation, giving bass enthusiasts a sound to salivate for.

Percussionist Jay Pacheco is an expert at his craft, showing his skills with an array of percussive instruments from bongos and congas to timbales and chimes.  Jay brings a spicy Latin complexity to the music.

Drummer Raymond Roosevelt met up with the band early Jan 2011 after . Raymond displays a musical sensitivity tantamount to Katerpillar’s unforgettable sound. By 2006, the Katerpillar was gigging from Orange County to Ojai, adding a few guest artists to the mix along the way.

World famous DJ Hazze collaborates with Katerpillar on their e.p. “From The B-boy Vault,” adding his signature scratch tracks and raps to Katerpillar’s eclectic sound. Trumpeter Danny Kay has been playing since the age of twelve, studying under greats such as Dennis Farias, Jeff Kaye and Rich Hoffman. Danny brings to the band a freestyle feel with a dirty funk tone. Featured singer Lindsay Cole accents the groove rock music with lilting harmonies and brings a new energy and attitude to Katerpillar’s b-boy set.

Now a fully cohesive band with an unmistakable and eclectic sound, Katerpillar is going stronger than ever. The rest is musical history in the making. For more information e-mail kpillarband@gmail.com or visit WWW.KATERPILLARMUSIC.COM.

Dread Daze

Pulling reggae apart and putting it back together again with a  dose of hip-hop, a dash of rock, and a whole lot of soul, Dread Daze tunes up the positive vibrations and turns traditional reggae on it’s ear. The powerful sound they bring forth is uniquely their own, and their music speaks their truth in no uncertain terms.

Di Wall, Dread Daze’ beautifully crafted debut album, literally explodes with songs like “Right Now”, “Stand Up”, and “Murder in the Name of Religion”, that challenge the status quo and urge people to question, understand and take action. “Kitty” and “NiteTime” get listeners out of their chairs and onto their feet — just in time to bend and move to the traditional reggae vibes of “Morning Time” and “Danger Signs” before slowing down and slipping into Ital Soul where lead vocalist Najashi seduces listeners with his steamy twist on a Motown-inspired love song.

Dread Daze was conceived in Los Angeles, but is a child of the world stage.  Their authentic desire to use their music to open minds, change vibes and spread a message of peace and unity shines through in every song and has captured the ears of listeners across all genres as well as promoters throughout the U.S. and around the world.  Dread Daze’ exudes raw energy on-stage and forges a strong bond with audiences worldwide, while their huge grass-roots following and spirit of collaboration make them widely sought after – as evidenced by countless shows in clubs, festivals and other venues throughout the U.S., Canada, and Europe.
